The business world in Europe is showing increased environmental awareness. In 2021, Europe was home to over 40% of ‘A’ companies and housed eight of the 14 'Triple A' companies.
Within Europe, 25% (23) of all A List companies in Europe are French, with the UK (15 companies) Germany (14) and Spain (11) following.
In Europe, 80% of all climate change A List companies have an approved science-based target.
Meet the A List companies that are leading the way on environmental action so far.
COP26 made clear that companies play a key role in achieving a net-zero emissions, nature-positive economy, and keeping us within 1.5°C. I am encouraged that more businesses are disclosing their impact and recognizing that environmental issues must be tackled together, and delighted that 8 of the 14 Triple A companies globally are based here in Europe. But we have to urgently see more action from companies outside of the A List. Companies not disclosing and acting on their environmental impacts are putting both the planet and themselves at risk. If they continue with business as usual, they will be on the wrong side of public opinion, regulation and the capital markets. Scrutiny is growing: inadequate targets or greenwash won’t fly.Maxfield Weiss, Executive Director, CDP Europe
