This month, CDP published a snapshot on Principal Adverse Impacts (PAI) that highlights some of the most important conclusions from its analysis of corporate environmental impacts in 2023. It shows that a comprehensive corporate assessment of negative impacts is lacking, as only 140 companies reported on all major environmental adverse impacts in 2023, out of over 23,000 that disclosed through CDP. The report unveils concerning data regarding corporate impact on nature, including water stress, water pollution, and areas sensitive to biodiversity, where there have been strong negative effects, possible underestimation of risks, and a lack of assessment. Mandatory rules in Europe and other regions will gradually require businesses to disclose their environmental impacts, including their greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, pollution of water and negative effects on biodiversity-sensitive areas.
In order to comply with international frameworks for business conduct and sustainability reporting regulations such as GRI, TNFD and the OECD, companies and investors must identify and disclose adverse impacts - activities that cause harm, loss or damage to the environment and climate. As this pressure grows and CDP’s 2024 disclosure cycle approaches, companies are getting ready to respond to their annual disclosure request(s); and so what better time to explore our network of Accredited Solutions Providers (ASPs)? Through their experience and range of sector expertise, ASPs can help you get ahead of environmental regulation and map your organization's route to environmental leadership.
