CDP is delighted to endorse the Science Based Targets initiative’s Net-Zero Standard – the world’s first science-based targets standard providing guidance, criteria and recommendations to support corporates on their net-zero journeys.
Amir Sokolowski, CDP's Global Director of Climate Change, says: "Historically, definitions of net-zero and methods for achieving it have been interpreted in different, and often inconsistent, ways. The Net-Zero Standard addresses this challenge by providing a clear, science-based definition of net-zero and how to get there.
The ScienceBased Targets initiative is the gold standard of verification and supports organizations through the crucial steps that follow disclosing emissions, from creating transition plans fully aligned with climate science to measuring progress towards halving emissions by 2030 and reaching net-zero by 2050.
Achieving global net-zero emissions by 2050 is vital to limit temperature rise to 1.5°C and avoid the worst effects of climate change. As a founding partner of the Science Based Targets initiative, we welcome the Net-Zero Standard as a robust tool for organizations in achieving the ambitious yet credible net-zero commitments that are essential for securing a climate-positive future for people and the planet."
