Climate action partnership formed as part of European Green Deal
Brussels, Belgium (February 25, 2021) — The European Commission's Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA) has engaged CDP Europe, part of the non-profit CDP Global System which runs the global environmental disclosure system, to join a partnership of prominent organizations in climate, outreach and engagement who will work in close collaboration with the Commission to deliver the European Climate Pact, an initiative launched as part of the European Green Deal.
The newly formed partnership, named “Promitto” (or “I pledge” in Latin), includes CDP Europe, Denkstatt, Friends of Europe, ICF, Ifok, IASS, LOW, Presencing Institute and Ramboll. These partners will provide strategic design, operations and secretariat services to DG CLIMA to help raise awareness for the Pact; build an EU-wide understanding about climate change; encourage citizens and organizations to pledge to concrete climate and environmental actions; and provide spaces and opportunities for co-creation, learning and networking. These services will capitalize on the latest digital tools and technologies for engagement.
Launched in December 2020, the European Climate Pact is an EU-wide initiative inviting people, communities and organizations to participate in climate action and build a greener Europe. Its goal is to help mobilize and support a social movement of millions of people across the EU to get involved in the green transition, inspire each other, and develop and scale up solutions.
“Meeting the European Green Deal will take a wholesale and rapid transformation of our economy and society, an effort requiring higher levels of ambition and commitments from financial institutions, corporates, cities, states, and regions”, commented Maxfield Weiss, Executive Director CDP Europe. “I’m delighted to announce CDP Europe’s involvement in the European Climate Pact; a chance for all European citizens and organizations to play a role and drive faster climate action. We stand committed to work with the rest of our partners and networks, taking advantage of CDP’s unique position in bringing impactful economic, financial and societal stakeholders together to make the Pact successful and help deliver the European Green Deal”.
