Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) account for around 90% of global business. Therefore, it is crucial that SMEs are equipped with the knowledge, tools and resources required to commit to and accelerate climate action, while ensuring long-term business viability.
In April 2024, CDP will roll out a dedicated CDP SME corporate questionnaire. The questions in this questionnaire will be aligned to the CDP full corporate questionnaire, but with fewer data points, simplified question formats and enhanced guidance to ease SMEs’ reporting burden.
This new questionnaire will replace the existing minimum version corporate questionnaire and the pilot private markets SME questionnaire. The SME corporate questionnaire builds on CDP's collaboration with the SME Climate Hub, the SME Climate Disclosure Framework, as well as our pilot private markets 2023 SME questionnaire.
Both the SME corporate and full corporate questionnaires will be available to access via a new, streamlined CDP Portal.
The eligibility threshold and questionnaire will be structured to provide the flexibility to meet SMEs at their current maturity level, making it easier to understand where SMEs should focus their attention while be challenging enough to build knowledge and drive actionable steps.
The questionnaire will incentivize SMEs to engage in disclosure and start taking action, recognizing that disclosure is an important first step in an organization’s environmental journey.
Associated guidance will support SMEs in navigating the ecosystem of resources and best practice.
In 2024, the SME questionnaire will focus on climate change and won’t include sector-specific questions or data points. Our intention is to expand to other environmental topics in the future.
In the meantime, we will include integrated forests and water security data points to kickstart disclosure journey for these themes.
