In 2022, Congress passed the Inflation Reduction Action (IRA) – the single largest investment in climate solutions ever made by the US federal government. Now that billions of dollars are available for climate investments, clean energy and green jobs, state and city governments have an unprecedented opportunity to apply for IRA funding to accelerate their own environmental and social equity commitments.
For nearly 25 years, CDP has been on the forefront of helping cities and companies drive environmental action and build resilience – through the power of disclosure. Learn how CDP can support you in achieving your climate action goals below.
You can’t manage what you don’t measure. Your participation in CDP’s annual disclosure process can be leveraged to demonstrate your progress in IRA sub-grants.
CDP’s annual disclosure questionnaire can serve as a standardized impact measurement tool – a centralized way to observe and understand greenhouse gas reduction and climate risk reductions over time. This increased transparency and equitable access to data creates a bridge of engagement between all stakeholders.
As a government, you have enormous power to influence the impact of your suppliers. That’s why measuring Scope 3 emissions is a key component of the IRA sub-grants.
CDP Supply Chain is designed to help state and local governments develop the Scope 3 portion of your GHG inventories while improving efficiency, resilience and reducing environmental impact through sustainable procurement.
Scope 3 emissions includes all sources not within an organization’s Scope 1 and 2 boundary. Scope 3 emissions, also referred to as value chain emissions, often represent the majority of an organization’s total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. As noted in the EPA guidance “Emerging Trends in Supply Chain Emission Engagement”, CDP’s Supply Chain program is a recognized pathway for tracking Scope 3 emissions and developing robust GHG emission inventories.
CDP’s Business Scan is a CDP data tool designed to help local governments identify leading businesses to engage with on collaborative climate action. Business Scan uses data analysis and our disclosure platform to provide a customized shortlist of companies for each state and local government. The results of your Business Scan will help you understand which local businesses you should be partnering with on decarbonization.
For example, Dallas formed the Business Climate Leadership Group with their Business Scan.
CDP also maintains a list of Accredited Solutions Providers that you can partner with on Climate Action Plans and sector specific goals like waste management, sustainability and decarbonization strategy, materiality, GHG inventories, reporting and disclosure.
