Tracking progress towards 2030 global goals
Learn how our Accredited Solutions Providers can help businesses navigate the sustainability landscape and support the achievement of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
As we begin the year marking the halfway point of the decade of action, reflections on company climate and nature goals are of paramount importance to ensure continued momentum towards achieving a sustainable planet for future generations. The increasingly important need to reverse nature loss stands before everyone, however, progress made thus far has not been satisfactory.
According to a recent press release from the United Nations, the world is on track to achieve only 17 per cent of 2030 agenda targets. Similarly, to meet the Paris Agreement targets, global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions must be reduced by approximately 43% by 2030 and 60% by 2035 compared to 2019 levels, with the goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. This will require a significant transformation across all sectors, including expanding renewable energy, phasing out unabated fossil fuels, halting deforestation, and applying both supply- and demand-side strategies.
The first global stocktake, concluded at COP28 reveals a concerning assessment of the current state of global climate efforts and emphasizes the urgent need to scale up ambitions and actions to meet the Paris Agreement's objectives.
